You, our whānau are so important to us as the first and most important teachers of your child – we work together in partnership with you to formulate a developmentally appropriate learning journey for your child. We put immense value on your feedback and any information you can share from interests and experiences at home, to holidays, values and beliefs and aspirations of areas you wish for your child to grow in.
Our curriculum is guided by each child’s individual, using these as a foundation to challenge and extend their thinking whilst supporting the development and refinement of working theories about the world around them. Through this approach we foster children’s physical, social-emotional, and cognitive development, encouraging confidence, curiosity, problem-solving, and a strong sense of wellbeing and belonging.
We like to get out into our community to build and extend on what we are learning about. Our regular excursions are to the library, museum, local resthomes, Ashburton College and any other direction our programme and interests take us. We also encourage parents/whānau and visitors to join us in the centre. As a part of our centre, we also have a large vegetable garden where we are kaitiaki, caring for our environment, supporting tamariki to understand where their food comes from.
Phoenix Preschool has a strong reputation with our local schools for supporting children to become confident, competent and well-prepared for the transition to the more formal learning environment of school.
