Kia ora, my name is Sharon and I have lived in Ashburton for most of my life. I am married to Les and together we have a son who is a father of four. Family is very important to me, and I love being a Nana and treasure the times I get to spend with my much loved grandchildren.
I became involved in Early Childhood Education when I started taking my son to Playcentre. When my son turned 5, I found myself at a loose end and was encouraged to undertake my training with Playcentre and eventually graduated with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education in 1998.
I initially spent 3years as a Playcentre Supervisor before working in preschools around the district as an Education Support Worker with Specialist Education Services for 2years. I spent 18years working at Ashburton Baptist Early Learning Centre until I took up a relieving position here at Phoenix in 2015.
I was extremely fortunate to be offered a permanent position and have been here for the past 11years where I currently work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It is an absolute privilege to be working here. Phoenix underpins the values of whanaungatanga where deep, respectful bonds are interwoven through our whānau, tamariki, kaiako, support staff, management and supportive trust board.
I love what I do and coming to work is a real privilege and pleasure, which I so look forward to and cherish. These early years are crucial, and I am so aware of the responsibility of the input and impact one has when working with and alongside our precious tamariki. Building a loving and trusting relationship is a high priority for me, and I truly hope each tamaiti I work with will feel valued, grow to appreciate their uniqueness, marvel at the amazing world around them and stand tall and confident in the knowledge that they have a significant place in this world.
