Kia ora, ko Angela Ross tōku ingoa, ko te kaiwhakahaere o kōhungahunga Phoenix au. My name is Angela Ross and I am in the role of Centre Manager. Phoenix Preschool has been like my second home and my second whānau for over 10yrs.
I began my early childhood education journey through Playcentre in Methven, where I quickly developed a passion for teaching and learning in the early years. I am particularly passionate about supporting tamariki to feel welcome, settled, and connected, helping them develop a strong sense of belonging within our centre. I highly value responsive and reciprocal relationships with tamariki, their whānau and my team, and I believe this is something that we do exceptionally well.
Outside of mahi, I enjoy spending time with my whānau – husband Donald, daughter Ciara and son Donnie. I love the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, and gardening. I love taking our dogs out on walks around our amazing community park in Newland. I also have a cat called Tezza – she is the sister to kaiako Sarah’s cat Dusty, starting her life journey at Phoenix Preschool before coming to live with us. I enjoy travelling and experiencing new places and cultures, and I hope to do more of this in the future.
I am passionate about kaitiakitanga and caring for our natural world through being sustainable, growing our own kai where possible. Indoors I enjoy baking, preserving our garden produce, the odd Netflix action flick or drama, or a heated boardgame or game of cards – Monopoly cards is our latest pick.
